Our Research Group

The ML4DS Research Group belongs to the Department of Signal Theory and Communications of Carlos III University of Madrid. Our group has an experience of over 15 years in R+D+i in the field of Machine Learning and its applications to Data Analysis and Information Processing.

Research activity

Machine Learning is one of the backbones that articulates the research activities of the ML4DS group. Since the foundation of the group, we have been a reference in Spain as early adopters and developers of cutting edge Machine Learning technologies. We are currently working on important challenges to make Machine Learning more scalable and accessible to the final users.

Transferring Technology to the Society

The group’s activity records include numerous research projects with public funds and in collaboration with private companies from various sectors. Check out for more information about previous research and technology transfer contracts.

Data Science Applications

We have experience in learning applications dealing with text, audio, and video data. In particular, we are currently interested in the application of automatic classification, topic modelling, and graph analysis for the categorization of unstructured documents collections. In the past, we also applied our designs to music genre recognition, semantic video analysis, or event detection in sport videos.

We have wide experience in applying data science and big data tools to the problems posed by our clients. Our expertise relies on over 15 years research experience developing novel machine learning methods. [more]
